Today’s headlines:

+   As anticipated, U.S. auto sales slipped 8 percent to around 13.9 million vehicles for 2022, but are expected to return to 15.1 million in 2023 as supply chain issues are resolved. More at Autoweek. 

+   At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Stellantis introduced the Ram Revolution BEV Concept, the truck division’s first dedicated battery-electric pickup. More at Car and Driver. 

+  Buick sales in the USA fell 42 percent in 2022, although the Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC brands increased their domestic sales for the year, as did General Motors overall. More at The Drive. 

+   Sony Honda Mobility, the joint venture formed by the two Japanese giants to produce electric vehicles, unveiled the prototype for its 2026 car and its brand name: Afeela. More at CNN. 

+   Michael Andretti’s Andretti Autosport has joined forces with the GM Cadillac brand to field an all-American Formula 1 team starting in 2026, subject to the approval of the FIA. More at the Guardian.

+   Automakers in China can build electric vehicles for $10,000 less than manufacturers in Europe, an overwhelming cost advantage according to Patrick Koller, CEO at supplier Forvia. More at Reuters. 

+   More than 15 percent of new vehicle buyers are making monthly payments of  $1,000 or more, compared to 10.5 percent one year ago, according to an Edmunds study. More at CNBC

+   Mercedes-Benz plans to spend $1 billion to build 400 charging stations across the United States with more than 2,500 individual chargers, completing the project by 2030. More at Autoblog. 

+   Stellantis has formed a partnership with Archer Aviation to produce an electric shuttle aircraft with a range of 100 miles, to be built at Archer’s Covington, Georgia plant. More at the Detroit Free Press.  

 Pro rally driver and entrepreneur Ken Block, who revolutionized action sports marketing and motorsports filmmaking, was killed in a snowmobile accident near his Utah home. More at ESPN.
