+   General Motors has issued yet another ignition switch recall, this time to replace defective switches on 83,000 SUVs and pickups from the 2011 and 2012 model years. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

+   Hyundai will build two factories in Cangzhou, Hebel province and in Chongqing in 2015, increasing its number of assembly plants in China to five. More at Automotive Business Review. 

+  The Detroit Auto Dealers Association Charitable Foundation has awarded $245,000 in grants to 10 local youth-serving nonprofit organizations in 2014. More at MLive.  

+   Prominent classic car collector Joseph Cassini has launched the Edison Concours d’Elegance, which will be held October 16-18, 2015 at Thomas Edison’s Glenmont estate in Llewellyn Park, New Jersey. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Formula One’s current engine manufacturers will be permitted to develop their powerplants through the 2015 season, after the FIA acknowledged a loophole in the existing regulations. More at Yahoo! Sport UK.

+   President Barack Obama will visit Michigan this week, where he will promote the auto industry recovery and the increase in manufacturing jobs in the state. More at Crain’s Detroit Business. 

+   The Qatar Racing Club has terminated funding for all motorsports activities in North America, including the two-car NHRA Top Fuel Al-Anabi Racing team. More at National Speed Sport News. 

+   Sales for Subaru topped 500,000 units in the United States in 2014, a new record for the brand after selling 424,000 vehicles the previous year. More at Autoblog.com.

+   Marco Andretti will make his Formula E Championship debut in Burnos Aires on Jan. 10, taking Frank Montagny’s former Andretti Autosport seat. More at Racer.

  1. It’s not surprising that the concours community would embrace that better-than-reality style of photography. I’m disappointed that I no longer live in the Northeast because there is a paucity of decent antique & classic car displays around these parts.

    The ones that I do attend are pricing themselves out of the reach of a Saturday excursion for an average guy and his potential car-loving sons. Back in the late Sixties when I first became interested in cars, major AACA and CCCA shows with significant cars were held on baseball fields and city parks for a moderate price.

  2. As a professional photographer, these heavy-handled HDR images drive me crazy. Everyone with a camera phone these days is a “photographer”. But, enough of that.

    I agree with Andy D about the east coast being loaded with great shows. Whereas, here in the upper-Midwest we’re lacking; to say the least.
