Today’s headlines: 

 Chinese automakers and government officials are eyeing German auto factories slated for closure and are particularly interested in Volkswagen’s facilities, sources say. More at Reuters. 

  Motor Intelligence reports that more than 3.2 million electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrids were sold in the USA in 2024, representing 20 percent of the total volume for the year. More at CNBC. 

+   Toyota’s Hino Motors truck division will pay more than $1.6 billion in fines and plead guilty to falsifying emissions certifications for 110,000 diesel engines sold in the USA. More at The Detroit News. 

+   JR Motorsports, the NASCAR Xfinity team owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kelly Earnhardt Miller, will enter its first Cup event at the Daytona 500 with driver Justin Allgaier. More at the Daytona Beach News-Journal. 

+   A survey by Deloitte found that 44 percent of Americans between the age of 18 and 34 would be at least somewhat willing to give up owning a vehicle in favor of mobility services. More at Autoblog. 

+   Stellantis reported that its global deliveries fell by 9 percent to 1,395,000 vehicles during the fourth quarter of 2024, with a shocking 28 percent decline in North America. More at CBT News. 

+   Lexus has introduced Final Edition versions of the RC and the high-performance RC F flagship, signaling the end of production for the sleek luxury coupes in November. More at Motor Authority. 

 Featured offerings at the Bonhams|Cars Paris sale on February 6 at the Grand Palais Historique will include three rare vintage Bugattis and a selection of modern exotics. More at Old Cars.  

+   Under a rotating schedule arrangement to make room for new venues, the Belgian Grand Prix at the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit will not be held in 2028 and 2030. More at the Guardian.  

+   General Motors signed a multi-year, multi-billion dollar agreement with Vianode of Norway to provide the U.S. automaker with synthetic graphite anode material for its EV batteries. More at World Auto Forum.
