+   Used-car retailer CarMax Inc. annnouced its is pausing some hiring, halting share buybacks, and cutting expenses after reporting an 86 percent drop in its third-quarter profit  More at World Auto Forum. 

+   General Motors is recalling 140,000 2017 through 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EVs in North America because the carpeting in the front passenger compartment could catch fire after a collision. More at Reuters. 

+   Rivian announced that it will no longer offer the quad-motor drivetrain in combination with its largest 180-kWh battery pack on the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, in order to simplify production. More at Car and Driver. 

 Arrow McLaren SP is reorganizing its IndyCar operation along the lines of its Formula 1 counterpart under the direction of Gavin Ward, a Red Bull and Team Penske veteran. More at Racer. 

+   Bugatti’s sole prototype of the Bugatti Chiron Profilée, a toned-down touring version  of the Pur Sport that was slated for production at one point, will be sold at auction on February 1. More at Autoblog. 

+  Toyota Motor North America sales chief Jack Hollis says the Land Cruiser SUV, discontinued in the USA in 2021, is likely to return to these shores at some unspecified date. More at MSN. 

 Under new Canadian regulations, zero tailpipe-emissions vehicles must make up  20 percent of the new vehicles sold by 2026, as the Ottowa government aims for total zero by 2035. More at Motor Illustrated. 

+   To boost its end-of-year sales totals, Tesla is offering rare discounts on its hot-selling Model 3 and Model Y electrics, but only for buyers who take delivery by December 31. More at The Detroit News. 

 Municipal officials in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma are offering Canoo Inc. $1 million in incentives to persuade the California-based EV startup to locate its truck assembly plant there. More at Auto Guide.

+   The NASCAR Cup Series is expected to have a wet weather equipment package, including rain tires and brake lamps, on hand for its six short track venues next season. More at Jayski.
