 One year after abandoning the market, French carmaker Renault is looking to revive its business in China by forming a hybrid vehicle joint venture with Geely Holding Group. More at Reuters.  

+   General Motors is working on two zero-emissions commercial vehicles: a full-size battery-electric van and a medium-duty truck using GM’s Hydrotec fuel-cell technology. More at Car and Driver. 

+   Ernie Garcia, CEO of used-car retailer Carvana, says prices will remain high until the new car makers resolve their supply chain problems, including the microchip shortage. More at CNBC. 

+   McLaren Racing has significantly expanded its involvement in the Arrow McLaren SP IndyCar team, buying a majority stake in the team that was previously a close partner. More at Road & Track. 

 Lear Corporation will operate a seat manufacturing facility with “hundreds of new jobs” on the site of the former Cadillac Stamping Plant on Conner Avenue in Detroit. More at The Detroit News. 

+   The Czinger 21C, an ICE/electric hybrid GT with 1200 hp, has toppled the track record for production road cars at Laguna Seca, besting the McLaren Senna by two seconds. More at Motor Trend. 

+   An unspecified number of new Ford vehicles, reportedly including some F-150 pickup trucks, were damaged in a 46-car train derailment in Ralls County, Missouri. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 The only titled and road-legal example of six Ford GT replicas constructed for the 2019 film Ford v Ferrari will be offered at the Mecum Dallas auction on September 8-11. More at The Drive.

 Toyota has filed a trademark application for the Hybrid Max name with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, reportedly for a hybrid version of the 2022 Tundra pickup. More at Motor Authority.
