Today’s Headlines: 

+   Jim Farley will replace Jim Hackett as CEO at Ford on Oct. 1, capping a leadership transition that was telegraphed in February when Farley was promoted to COO. More at The Detroit News.

+   In a live internet streaming event, General Motors introduced the Cadillac Lyriq, an electric luxury crossover with range of 300 miles that the company calls its “technology spearhead.” More at CNBC. 

 Noted designer Gordon Murray unveiled his latest road car, the 654-hp T.50, which employs fan-driven active aero, weighs only 2174 lbs, and will be limited to 106 units. More at Car and Driver. 

+   After earlier committing to hosting the 2020 Indy 500 with a live audience, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will now stage this year’s event without spectators. More at IndyStar. 

+   For 2021, Audi will introduce a reduced-cost, entry-level model of the E-tron with slightly greater range and the slashed $8800, some $13,000 less than the Tesla X. More at The Drive. 

+   In a campaign video featuring his personal 1967 Corvette, presidential candidate Joe Biden dropped a rumor about an upcoming electric Corvette good for 200 mph. More at Motor Trend. 

+   Fiat Chrysler is preparing for a possible recall over an emissions issue affecting about one million Jeeps and other vehicles equipped with the 2.4-liter Tigershark engine. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 Even without a live audience, the Silverstone Classic Live Online Auction on July 31-August 1 was the company’s biggest-grossing event ever with $20.72 million in sales. More at Classic Cars.com Journal. 

+   Ride-sharing giant Uber posted a loss of $837 million in the second quarter as as passenger travel plummeted but the company’s home food delivery business doubled. More at Reuters. 

 Joe Gibbs Racing and driver Erik Jones jointly announced that Jones will leave the NASCAR Cup team at the end of the year, opening the door for rising star Christopher Bell. More at Jayski.
