+   According to Automotive News, Toyota is studying the potential for a future compact pickup based on Corolla components that could compete directly with the Ford Maverick. More at The Drive. 

+   Chevrolet has dropped the $44,995 base 1LT model of the 2024 Blazer EV, leaving the $56,715 2LT and the $61,790 RS AWD as the available models of the upcoming electric SUV. More at Car and Driver. 

 BMW is stepping up its funding on electric vehicle development after the German luxury-car maker’s battery-vehicle deliveries more than doubled during the first half of the year. More at The Detroit News. 

 Hyundai and Kia are recalling more than 91,000 vehicles in the USA from the 2023-2024 model years due to a fire risk and are urging owners to park outdoors and away from buildings. More at Reuters. 

+   The inductees to the 2024 NASCAR Hall of Fame are seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, his crew chief Chad Knaus, legend Donnie Allison, and pioneer Janet Guthrie. More at USA Today.  

 The reborn 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser, available in showrooms next spring, will feature a 2.4 liter four-cylinder turbo hybrid drivetrain and a base price in the mid-$50,000 range. More at Autoweek. 

 Acura is using a teaser image to preview the ZDX EV, its first volume-production battery-electric vehicle, before its official rollout in August at Monterey Car Week in California. More at Autoblog. 

+   Ford has filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its version of a wireless inductive electric vehicle charging system embedded in the roadway. More at Motor Authority. 

 Stars at the Worldwide Auctioneers Destination Auburn sale on Aug. 31-Sept. 2 will include a 1965 Dodge A990 Hemi Super Stock and a 1949 Delehaye 135MS Coupé by Ghia-Agile. More at Old Cars.
