 China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), a Tesla supplier, is developing a new type of electric vehicle battery that contains no nickel or cobalt. More at Reuters.

+   Columbus-based Root Insurance, an app-based auto insurance provider, will stop using credit scores to set its premium rates, calling the practice discriminatory. More at Car and Driver. 

 Third-generation Indy Car driver Marco Andretti ran a four-lap average of 231.068 mph in his Andretti Autosport Dallara-Honda to win the pole for next Sunday’s Indy 500. More at ESPN. 

+   Lucid Motors CEO Peter Rawlinson says the electric car maker has the cash, technology, and talent to defy skeptics and become one of the first real rivals to Tesla. More at CNBC.

+   Spire Motorsports confirmed it has purchased the assets of Leavine Family Racing and will run a two-car NASCAR Cup operation from the former Leavine facility in 2021.
