Today’s headlines: 

+   Nissan announced it will not take new orders from the U.S. for two Infiniti SUVs built in Mexico as it scales back production there in response to tariffs levied by President Trump. More at Reuters. 

 Ford and Stellantis both announced new employee pricing incentive programs this week for customers nationwide in an attempt to offset the gloomy U.S. economic forecast. More at The Drive. 

+   Dianne Craig, president of Ford’s Lincoln brand, will retire after 38 years with the company, to be replaced by Joaquin Nuno-Whelan, current program director for large SUVs. More at The Detroit News. 

 Alpine Formula 1 driver Jack Doohan avoided serious injury in a huge crash during the second practice session at the Japanese Grand Prix, exiting the circuit at 180+ mph. More at MSN Sports. 

 Genesis will bring back its black-on-black Prestige Black models to the USA later this year for its G80, G90, GV80, and GV80 Coupe, with exclusive features yet to be announced. More at Car and Driver. 

 A study by Edmunds found that U.S. car buyers are taking out longer loans at higher interest rates, with 20 percent signing 84-month notes and 17.7 percent making $1,000+ payments. More at Autoblog. 

+   In a cost-cutting move, Hyundai will terminate its three-year, 36,000-mile free maintenance plan for 2026 and newer models, but 2025 and older models are not affected. More at CBT News. 

+   Broad Arrow Auctions will present a number of historically significant race cars and classics at its inaugural Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este Auction on May 24-25, 2025. More at Old Cars.

+   Lana Payne, president of the Unifor Canadian auto workers’ union, has split with United Auto Workers leader Shawn Fain in the USA over the issue of import tariffs. More at the Detroit Free Press. 

 Hendrick Motorsport has replaced nearly the entire pit crew for NASCAR Cup driver Kyle Larson, with five new pit crewmen acquired from Spire Motorsports and two remaining. More at NBC Sports.

  1. I don’t see the appeal of all black cars. They look like stripper price leaders.

    I also don’t see why Detroit could never style a car as attractive as a 250GTE. It would have made a very attractive ponycar. People were willing to pay much more for that Ferrari than a Riviera. Who decided that luxury cars have to be massive to justify the price?
