The Tesla Cybertruck won’t go into production unitl late 2021, but in the meantime, the Mattel Hot Wheels brand is offering these neat radio-control models in two scales.
Like the rest of the automotive world, we’re watching the Tesla Cybertruck saga unfold with curiosity and wonder. And like everyone else, we’re not entirely sure what all the future holds for the controversial electric car maker, but we thought this development was worthy of note: The Cybertruck is now officially a part of the Mattel Hot Wheels catalog. It’s been immortalized, if you will.
Mattel is offering its pint-sized Cybertruck in two versions:
+ A tiny 1:64 scale radio-control model that runs on standard-gauge orange plastic Hot Wheels track and sells for 20 bucks.
+ A larger “hobby-grade” 1:10 scale model, also radio-controlled, with functioning lights and tailgate and built ruggedly enough for serious off-road use, and selling for $400. The big model includes the ultimate Tesla insider joke: vinyl stickers for the windows to simulate broken glass.
Both models are scheduled to arrive in December 2020, just in time for Christmas. Mattel reports that the initial production run of the larger 1:10 model is already sold out, but let no one be surprised if the company offers up another batch.
I’ll take the 20 dollar version.
