From Cobo Center in downtown Detroit, here’s a photo essay of day one at the North American International Auto Show.
It’s showtime again in the Motor City. Some of the fresh stuff from day one at NAIAS:
+ 2015 Corvette Z06 and its 625 hp supercharged V8
+ 2014 Corvette C7.R endurance racer
+ More on the 2015 Ford F150 pickup, including its extensive use of aluminum
+ Volvo CX Coupe Concept
+ 2015 GMC Canyon mid-size pickup
+ First public look at the 2015 Mustang since the media debut last month
+ Toyota FT1 Concept sports car
Naturally, we’ll be circling back with more news and photos from the show. In the meantime, check out the photo gallery.
YAWN ( sorry), the best one was the Corvair van in the background of picture 8
I hear you. The Corvair van was here last year, too. It’s done up sort of hippie style with a video display inside.
How much does it cost to do a matte finish like the SRT Viper GTS here (and I guess the Nissan as well)? I always think it looks great on these show cars.
What did you think of the new Porsche Targa?
Fairly ludicrous that you need an extensive setup to take the top on and off. It can’t weigh more than 15 pounds. It emphasizes how far the 911 has drifted from it’s sports car roots. I’ve taken a Miata hard top on and off by myself and that’s about 40 pounds.
Judging from the crowd around it, the Targa will be huge. Look for photos in the next installment.
With modern color-coat/clear-coat paint systems, matte finish is simple to achieve by varying the reflectivity of the clear top coat, zero to 60 percent gloss. Full dull is generally called matte; semi-gloss is termed satin.
Thank you for that info!
