Brittany Force Makes NHRA History

This weekend in Las Vegas, Brittany Force turned in the fastest speed in history for a Top Fuel dragster in NHRA competition: 338.17 mph.

At the Dodge NHRA Nationals Presented by Pennzoil in Las Vegas this weekend, second-generation driver Brittany Force recorded the fastest speed ever for a Top Fuel dragster at 338.17 mph. Wow. Now check out the video below: Fortunately, we are treated to a rare overhead camera position, where we can see just what it takes to produce such a phenomenal speed: The car leaves straight and hard and pulls all the way down the track, with little smoke, sparks, or theatrics—just pure, blinding acceleration. For that you can credit solid driving by Brittany and spot-on tuning by her crew chief at John Force Racing, David Grubnic.

Not to be topped at Las Vegas, in the final qualifying session Leah Pritchett of Don Schumacher Racing threw down a 3.654 elapsed time, edging out Brittany’s 3.659, taking the pole and resetting the track record. It looks like the Top Fuel teams have got their arms solidly around their monsters, at least for the moment, and observers are predicting we can expect a 340 mph pass any time now—possibly at Las Vegas, or maybe at the NHRA season finale at Pomona in two weeks. Now watch Brittany Force roll the earth back. Video below.

  1. That’s pretty incredible, looks like Grubby knows what he’s doing. So much for slowing them down with the 1000 ft baloney.

  2. They’re gonna have to cut back to an 1/8 mile to slow them down. The teams have advanced so far the 320 foot track reduction doesn’t mean a thing now, they’re just as fast or faster now than they were before they cut down the track length.
