Here’s our report on the 2021 edition of one of our favorite events, the EyesOn Design show, including a big photo gallery.
Each year, the EyesOn Design Automotive Design Exhibition is curated around a unique theme. For 2021, the theme was “Marques of Extinction: Significant Designs of Bygone Brands.” As a result, there were even more unusual and seldom-seen cars than usual on the lawn at the Eleanor and Edsel Ford House in St. Clair Shores. So in assembling this photo gallery from our day at the show, we took the opportunity to focus on the automotive rarities. Here we direct your attention to a few of them:
+ From the wildly imaginative mind of car builder Randy Grubb of Blastolene fame, his 2013 Decoliner and the 2014 Pulse Jet Lakester, part of an entire category of Grubb creations.
+ A 1937 Graham with distinctive coachbuilt bodywork by Worblaufen of Switzerland, a firm known for its sporting and elegant designs.
+ A 1950 Packard Station Sedan—as the name suggests, it’s a sort of sedan and station wagon hybrid constructed with form-fitting hardwood bodywork.
+ The 1963 Studebaker Sceptre prototype, a striking Brooks Stevens proposal for a 1966 Studebaker Hawk that was never produced, presented by the Studebaker National Museum. (See our feature on the Sceptre here.)
