Labor Day Weekend brings one of our favorite vintage car events, the annual Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival in Auburn, Indiana. Here’s our report on this year’s edition.
The people of Auburn, Indiana are proud of the automotive history of their little city, and justifiably so. Auburn was the home of E.L. Cord’s magnificent Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg combine, and each year the city celebrates its historic connection with the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival. One of the great traditions of the collector car community, dating all the way back to 1954, the A-C-D Festival remains one of the greatest shows around, with a giant swap meet, a car auction, and a full calendar of events focused on the city’s hometown marques.
Festival events are hosted in two locations: the museum district a few blocks south of downtown, originally the home of the Auburn auto factory complex, and the RM Auctions facility one exit south of town on Interstate 69. For details on all the attractions around Auburn including a schedule, map, travel and lodging info, etc., check out the city’s official ACD Festival website. Info on the RM auction, swap meet, and happenings around the auction complex can be found at the RM Sotheby’s official event website.
Our favorite events of the weekend include the Festival Parade through downtown Auburn on Saturday, concluding at the town square, along with the mustering of vehicles for the parade on Saturday morning in Eckhart Park, directly behind the museums. This year’s show was memorialized as The Year of the Duesenberg, and as usual, there was a stupendous assortment of mighty Duesenberg J, SJ, and other models gathered near the front gate of the park. Naturally, the parade also featured an awesome collection of Auburn and Cord vehicles, as usual. Please click on any image to launch a slide show.
Thank you for picturing our car. We had a wonderful time as always.
