2012 Syracuse Nationals preview

Motor City Garage has been short on hot rod coverage thus far, but we’re going to fix that. This weekend we’re headed for the Syracuse Nationals in Syracuse, New York, one of the epic events in hot rodding.

Again this year, MCG has been invited by Detroit artist/designer Murray Pfaff to serve on the judging panel for his Designer’s Dozen awards at Syracuse. It’s a real challenge but loads of fun. And as long as we’re there, we’re going to soak up the entire show and its 7,000-plus vehicles, shooting a ton of photos.

Of course, there’s a lot more to Syracuse than hot rods and street machines. The show includes vintage trucks, sports cars, restored muscle cars and Motor City classics—the whole spectrum of road-going enthusiast vehicles. And since Motor City Garage doesn’t play favorites with any automotive category — we love them all — we’ll do our best to cover them all.

Meanwhile, below is a small sample of the vehicles in attendance last year to give you an idea of the tremendous variety at Syracuse—and maybe whet your appetite a bit. Stay tuned.

  1. I was picked for the designer dozen. 69 Gray Camaro with License Plate UL LOSE. What a great SHOW!. Where can I see pictures of my car? Thanks, Jim Wilson wbi1@comcast.net

    • After checking, we don’t have a photo of your car. I remember the car but don’t remember specifically (7000 cars!) why we don’t have a photo, but it was probably because we couldn’t get a clear shot, there was a heavy shadow falling over the car, or similar reason. Big shows like this can be challenging to shoot, as you can imagine.

      • It was one of the 14 cars in the Designer Dozen, it was a pick. You would think there would be pictures of those 14 winners? My firsty time at your show, is the Designer Dozen Picks no big deal I guess?

        • Not our show. MCG does not represent nor furnish photography for Syracuse Nationals. MCG is simply covering the car show. As stated before, when a car isn’t photographed, it’s probably due to physical obstacle: dumpster in background, dark shadow falling over car, too many people in way, etc. MCG has no reason to exclude nice cars, quite the contrary. Once again, sorry.
