Video: An animated history of F1–for kids of all ages

GP4In honor of this weekend’s United States Grand Prix, here’s a wonderful animation that celebrates the history of Formula One. It’s guaranteed to bring out the child in you.

We don’t know a whole lot about this magical little video, except that it was originally aired as part of the opening for the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix broadcast on Globo, the Brazilian television network. And that it uses a combination of cutting-edge computer graphics and charming stop-motion animation to tell the history of Formula One racing in the modern era.

Contemporary F1 racing is quite probably the most complex and technically advanced form of sporting competition ever devised. But as this video demonstrates, when the sport is reduced to its bare essence, the appeal couldn’t be more simple, basic, and innocent. Enjoy the video, boys and girls.
