+   At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Volkswagen CEO Matthias Mueller pledged to invest $84 billion in electric vehicle technology and bring 300 electric models to market by 2030. More at the UK Express. 

+   Two labor unions that represent production employees at Harley-Davidson say they’ve terminated a long-standing cooperation agreement with the company. More at USA Today. 

+   Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Tony Stewart has pledged his “unwavering support” for driver Danica Patrick upon losing her sponsorship and NASCAR Monster Cup ride for next year. More at CBS Sports. 

+   Hyundai has formally unveiled the 2019 Genesis G70 luxury sedan, aimed squarely at the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class market and due in showrooms next spring. More at Motor Trend. 

+   The Fiat Chrysler assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario is slated for a four-week shutdown next month as the company updates the production line to meet airbag regulations. More at the Detroit Free Press.  

+   Renault will not continue its engine supply agreement with Red Bull after 2018, presumably forcing the Formula 1 team into a partnership with Honda. More at Motorsport.com.

+   Daimler AG announced that the United Parcel Service will be the first U.S. commercial customer for its eCanter battery-powered truck, announcing that “the game has started.” More at Reuters. 

+   The historic Pete Henderson 1932 Ford roadster will be offered for sale at the RM Sotheby’s Hershey auction on October 5-6, where it is expected to bring $160,000 to $180,000. More at Hemmings Daily. 

+   Porsche CEO Oliver Blume says the automaker is seriously considering a coupe version for the next-generation Cayenne crossover lineup. More at UK Autocar. 

+   Formula 1 double champion Fernando Alonso says there is no guarantee he will remain with McLaren, which has switched from Honda to Renault power for 2018. More at Racer.

+   Swedish supplier Autoliv aims to split into two publicly traded companies, one focused on passive safety technology including airbag systems and one on electronics. More at Automotive News Europe.
