The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, held each Labor Day Weekend in Auburn, Indiana, is one of America’s oldest collector car events, dating back to 1954. Here’s a look at this year’s gathering.
…Along with being one of the oldest events in the sport, the ACD Festival is also one of the biggest, with multiple car auctions, a gigantic (last time MCG saw it) swap meet, a parade…the list goes on a while. Amid all this madness, the festival’s main attraction for MCG is the matchless collection of Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg vehicles that return for the homecoming each year. Here they are: American collector car royalty. And over the years, MCG has determined that the least harried and most enjoyable place to view these magnificent cars is at the Saturday morning muster at Eckhart Park, a short walk east of the ACD Museum.
After gathering here, the will cars head out to join the Saturday afternoon parade through the streets of downtown Auburn, then park around the courthouse square for their annual formal showing. These are perfectly fine opportunities to view the cars as well, but the Eckhart Park gathering takes place in a green and shady little glen before the merciless Indiana sun gets too high in the sky. All the cars are awesome but I love, love, love the Brunn Riviera. We have many wonderful family memories from Auburn. The girls were hooked on pulled pork sandwiches at the Town Tavern when they very young. I hope this great celebration remains strong for future hobbyists and the terrific Auburn community.
Totally agree on the Brunn Riviera. I’m not up on my Duesenberg lore like I used to be (as in a lot of things) but if I recall, a NY auto show car… and supercharged, and relatively original. Got to love the hinges, too.
